Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro won in the presidential elections held on Sunday , defeating opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia.
The National Electoral Council CNE reported, according to Telesur, that Maduro received 51.20 percent of the votes, compared to 44.2 percent for opposition candidate Gonzalez Urrutia.
Elvis Amoruso, president of the Electoral authority explained that more than 11 million votes were valid during Election Day.
He pointed out that Maduro received 5 million and 150 thousand votes, 51.20 percent, in a vote that took place without problems and with a turnout rate of 59 percent, while Gonzalez came second with 4 million and 445 thousand and 978 votes, 44.2 percent of the votes.
