Najafi: The United Nations must oppose unilateral coercive measures and demand their immediate cancellation

New York, (ST) – The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Reza Najafi stressed that the United Nations must clearly oppose unilateral coercive measures and demand their immediate cancellation.

IRNA quoted Najafi as saying during the meeting of the High-Level Political Forum at the United Nations: Unilateral coercive measures constitute a major obstacle to international cooperation.“These measures are used to weaken the activities of the United Nations system, disrupt economic and social development in developing countries, weaken multilateralism and strengthen unilateralism”, he added.

Najafi stressed that the issue of countries’ development should be at the heart of the United Nations’ attention and efforts and international cooperation.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister pointed to the need to remove all obstacles to achieving national development for countries, especially by canceling unilateral coercive measures.

Najafi said: The Palestinian people have been seeking their basic human rights for more than 75 years, so “how can we discuss achieving the sustainable development goals while we are witnessing war crimes and genocide in the Palestinian territories?”
