Moscow denounces UNESCO’s ignoring of killing and harassment of Russian journalists

Russia’s representative to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Rinat Alaudinov denounced the report of the organization’s Director-General Audrey Azoulay for ignoring the killing of Russian journalists in hotspots and their exposure to repression and harassment in Western countries.

RT quoted Alaudinov as saying during the International Telecommunications Council conference in Paris: “Russia categorically rejects the UNESCO Director-General’s report on the safety of journalists, which ignores the killing of Russian journalists in 2022-2023 and does not reflect the real situation of the safety of journalists, and is based on unreliable allegations, which made it a source of misinformation.”

He stressed that this selective approach in responding to the killing of journalists violates the decisions of the General Conference and the Executive Board of UNESCO.

He called on member states to take decisive action to overcome the arbitrariness of the General Secretariat and the division of UNESCO into friends and enemies, which contradicts the ideals and principles of the organization.
