VIENNA, (ST)-The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini has warned of the serious threat posed by “Daesh” terrorist organization to peace, culture and religious fraternity and coexistence.
Interviewed by the Austrian “Courier” newspaper on Monday, Mogherini said the use of the term “Islamic State” by Daesh “means that Europe accepts what this terrorist organization says about its link to Islam while most of its victims are Moslems.”
“We must refuse them, reject their existence and separate them from the Islamic religion,” Mogherini added.
She urged the European Union to play a bigger role in the Middle East, particularly in maintaining the Palestinian people’s rights and supporting their struggle to establish their independent state. She reiterated the need for a unified European stance and coordination on all the region’s issues, particularly terrorism fighting, security, defense, economy, immigration and refugees.
In the same context, Mogherini affirmed the need to rebuild confidence between the European Union and Russia, because the later is an important partner to Europe. She urged returning to dialogue with Moscow as to keep the ghost of the Cold War away.
