Ministry of Health: Receiving the first batch of Covid 19 vaccines provided by (Kovax), consisting of 203 thousand doses
On April 22nd, The Ministry of Health announced that it has received the first batch of Covid 19 vaccines.
The global platform for the Corona vaccine “Kovax” provided 203 thousand doses.
“Within the framework of what will be supplied to Syria to the Covax platform- the platform supplied Syria with the first batch of COVID-19 vaccine, which amounts to 203,000 doses,” ,” the Minister of Health, Dr. Hassan Al-Ghabash, said during a press conference in the Ministry’s building.
“Kovax aims to secure the vaccine in 92“ low-income countries within the multilateral mechanism to ensure fair access to vaccines and the global distribution of these vaccines within the right time,” the Minister added.
Al-Ghabash pointed to the importance of the international community’s work to provide the vaccine and mitigate the effects of the epidemic through a coordinated global response based on multilateral cooperation, solidarity and respect for human rights.
Al-Ghabash stressed the importance of the role that international organizations can play to support Syria’s position, calling for the lifting of unilateral Western coercive measures that hinder providing basic health services, especially in light of the Covid 19 pandemic.
Al-Ghabash referred to the need for continued cooperation and coordination to complete the supply of the vaccine to Syria in a timely manner to ensure the effective implementation of the national plan for vaccination against the Covid 19 epidemic.
Al-Ghabash expressed Syria’s thanks to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund UUNICEF) for their efforts during the past months to secure the vaccines to Syria.
The Minister noted the excellent efforts of the Indian ambassador in Damascus, Hafiz al-Rahman, and the support provided by his country to accelerate the production and supply of this quantity of vaccines.
