Since the eruption of the crisis in Syria, Homs has suffered greatly from the presence of terrorism that deliberately destroyed the city’s infrastructure as well as the people’s properties. Homs paid the biggest bill of the crisis as many of its sons were martyrs while carrying out their national task in defending the homeland.
In reverence to the martyrs who forewent everything to protect their homeland’s dignity and in appreciation of the people who remained in their homes resisting the savage terrorist groups starting from their strong belief that Syria is more important than their souls, several charities were established to provide all sort of support to the martyrs’ families.
The Martyr Foundation is one of these associations that were created in a bid to serve martyrs families and to stress that the sacrifices of the martyrs won’t be in vain.
“The motto of our Foundation is “We are the tutelary of martyrs’ families”. The foundation aims to provide health, education and social support to the martyrs’ families and to enhance the concept of volunteering and the one-family culture”, Head of the Martyr Foundation, Mr. Ahed al-Soukar confirmed to the Syria Times.
“Work in the foundation began in 2013 marking the Martyrs Day. Among the most important achievements carried out by the foundation is the medical complex which was built in the city centre. The 1000 square meter medical complex includes a number of clinics, emergency centre, x-rays section and a laboratory in addition to a physical therapy centre. “This complex, which is the best in Homs, provides services to the public within the social development project that we are running in the community. The Pharmacy of the Martyr Foundation, is another important enterprise which provides medicine to the public and to the families of the martyrs in law prices”, Mr. al-Soukari added.
“Carrying out such projects was based on a social survey that specified the number of martyrs among civilians, military and security forces as well as police and the national defense forces,” he clarified.
Regarding the foundation’s other activities, Mr. al-Soukari said: “there are several under implementation projects including: an emergency hospital, a sewing workshop, a kindergarten, a Pharmacy and a consultant engineering office. Members of the martyrs’ families will have the priority to work in these projects.”
“We have also launched a new branch of our foundation dedicated for the wounded aiming to provide medical treatment to the wounded fighters from the national defense forces,” al-Soukari added.
“Our simple contribution will hopefully be added to other honest and genuine efforts aiming to achieve our national goal in keeping the national cohesion, strengthening the steadfastness of the people, rebuilding our homeland and preparing a good future for our sons in the new Syria “. Mr. al-Soukari concluded.
