Santiago (ST): Left-wing coalition candidate Gabriel Borek won the second round of Chile’s presidential election with 50 percent of the votes counted.
According to Agence France-Presse, the Central Elections Committee said in a statement today that the left-wing coalition candidate Gabriel Borek received 54.72 percent, while the right-wing candidate Jose Antonio Caste received 45.28 percent.
On Sunday, voters in Chile headed to cast their votes in the second round of the presidential election.
“Just spoke to Gabriel Borek and congratulated him on his great victory,” Caste wrote on Twitter. “Today he is the elected president of Chile and he deserves all our respect and our constructive cooperation. Chile always comes first.
Voters in Chile voted on the 21st of last November widely for the most exciting presidential election, in which a former right-wing member of Congress competed with a leftist candidate.
