Lebanon made no concessions on maritime borders issue: Lebanese Presidency

The Lebanese Presidency has confirmed that Lebanon has made no concessions regarding the issue of maritime borders with occupied Palestine.

The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) cited the presidency as saying in a statement in response to reports and articles on the issue of demarcation that “the presidency affirms that what has been achieved regarding the demarcation of the southern maritime borders is the result of a Lebanese decision that reflects a unified national stance and that comes after difficult negotiations led by the Lebanese negotiating team with the American mediator with the aim of defending the right of the Lebanese state in its water, oil and gas wealth.”

The presidency reiterated that “Lebanon didn’t make any concessions during the negotiations and it didn’t subject to any kind of bargaining or foreign interference. On the contrary, many brotherly countries have welcomed and supported the Lebanese stance.”

“All that promote the opposite is nothing but fake reports and a sort of analysis that doesn’t correspond with reality. It is shameful that such fake reports are issued by some parties that are supposed to back their state and their officials, because the issue of demarcation is an achievement at the level of the homeland that serves all the citizens not only of a person, a party of a foreign country,” the presidency clarified.

It expressed hope that the continuous attempts of some Lebanese parties to insult the dignity and sovereignty of the country will cease, explaining that some Lebanese parties have claimed that the results of negotiations on demarcation was a foreign decision from a foreign country or more, while in fact, it is the result of a solid national decision in which there is no partner.
