Israeli occupation has arrested 1530 Palestinians in the occupied Jerusalem since the start of this year

OCCUPIED AL-QUDS, May.29, (ST)- The “Palestinian Prisoners Club” revealed on Sunday that the Israeli occupation forces have arrested 1530 Palestinians in the occupied Jerusalem since the start of this year. The club said in a press statement that the occupied Jerusalem has witnessed more than 16,900 arrests since 2015, including 2784 cases last year and there were children, women, elderly and injured among the detainees.

The statement confirmed that Jerusalem has been recording the high percentage of arrest cases on monthly basis, as the city is witnessing strong confrontations with the occupation forces, including extensive aggressions, specially the constant escalation of intrusions carried out by the occupation army and settlers into Al-Aqsa Mosque, as the Israeli occupation has been continuing its escalation of the systematic detention operation in Jerusalem since popular uprising erupted by the end of 2015.

Every hour a new detention case is monitored, followed by constant attacks reaching gunfire, and severe beatings, with the aim of undermining the ongoing confrontation.

The statement asserted that the arrests in Jerusalem take a special nature in terms of the systematic practices that the detainees are exposed to, as some Jerusalemites have been subjected to arrests that reached 40 times over the course of a few years, and most of them were either released on conditions such as imposing financial fines, bails, or under house arrest and banishment, specifically from the Old City, including Al-Aqsa Mosque.
