Iran: The West should stop its politically motivated practices regarding the implementation of the CWC
Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Majid Takht Rawanji has reiterated the need to fully and effectively implement the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), urging the western countries to stop their politically motivated and unprofessional practices in this regard.
He said that the politicization of issues relating to chemical weapons undermines the credibility of both the CWC and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
He regretted the Western countries’ attempts in recent years to achieve their own political goals in the Security Council and the OPCW with regard to Syria, pointing out that this behavior has created differences among the member states of the Security Council and the Organization regarding the use of chemical weapons, which damaged the credibility of both international organizations.
