Iran calls on the Security Council to take immediate action to impose sanctions on the Zionist entity

The Hague, (ST)-Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi called on the UN Security Council to take immediate action to impose effective sanctions on the Zionist entity in accordance with Chapter Seven of the UN Charter in response to its ongoing crimes in the region.

At the 29th annual meeting of the member states of the Chemical Weapons Convention held in The Hague, Gharibabadi condemned the crimes of the Zionist entity against the people of Palestine and Lebanon that go unpunished, as this entity enjoys immunity and unconditional support from some Western countries, especially the United States.

Gharibabadi also condemned the Zionist entity’s use of chemical weapons and other dangerous materials, including white phosphorus and depleted uranium, against the defenseless people of Palestine and Lebanon, and asked the Director-General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into this matter and take the necessary measures to protect the victims.

He pointed to the threats posed by the Zionist entity’s arsenal of chemical weapons to regional and international peace and security, and the need to achieve comprehensiveness of the convention and pressure this entity to join it and place all its chemical facilities under the supervision of the OPCW.

Gharibabadi also called for preventing the politicization of the OPCW and enhancing international cooperation in the field of new technologies to advance the peaceful goals of the convention.
