Iftar banquet for the people of Old Aleppo and raising the Adhan at the Great Umayyad Mosque in Aleppo after 12 years of war

The Maghrib Adhan “call to prayer” resounded at the great Umayyad Mosque in the city of Aleppo announcing the return of life to this historical and religious heritage after a hiatus of about 12 years fand after liberating it from terrorism. The Adhan was raised during a Ramadan Iftar banquet that brought together 1400 people from the neighborhoods of the old city of Aleppo and the good doers that are contributing to restoration and reconstruction of this archeological landmark.

The Iftar banquet comes as a part of “Tashark Bil Khair” campaign launched by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor in cooperation with the Syrian Trust for Development and the Union of Charitable Societies in Aleppo, according to what the Director of Social Affairs and Labor in Aleppo, Ahmed Hamza, said.

In a statement to SANA, Hamza stressed the importance and significance of this banquet and its privacy for the people of old Aleppo, which gathered them in this great religious edifice and gave them the joy of hearing the sound of Adhan” call to prayer”, which they were deprived of for years, especially in the holy month of Ramadan.

The banquet included religious chanting, in which the artist Tayseer Idris participated, and religious chants from Mawlawiyya.
