Health Minister discusses with the Director-General of the World Health Organization ways to enhance cooperation
The Minister of Health, Dr. Hassan Al-Ghabash, discussed with the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, ways to enhance cooperation on securing medical equipment and developing health care services.
During his meeting with Ghebreyesus in Geneva, Minister Al-Ghabash referred to the difficulties facing Syria as a result of the terrorist war and the unilateral coercive measures that affected various vital economic and service sectors, including the health sector, noting in this context the support provided by the World Health Organization to Syria.
Minister Al-Ghabash reviewed the efforts made in the vaccination campaign against the Corona virus and the challenges facing the health sector, especially the Covid-19 pandemic in light of the inhumane siege imposed on the Syrian people, in addition to discussing the latest developments in the global pandemic and the health risks looming in the world.
Dr. Al-Ghabash presented the health conditions in the occupied Syrian Golan and the suffering of its people from discriminatory policies and practices that impede their enjoyment of their basic rights, including the right to health, stressing the importance of the organization carrying out its responsibilities in monitoring Israeli violations to the implementation of the relevant World Health Assembly resolutions and the implementation of the obligations imposed by international law on the Israeli occupation authorities. as the occupying power.
For his part, the Director-General of the World Health Organization praised the efforts made by Syria to protect its citizens in the face of the Covid 19 pandemic, stressing the organization’s commitment to continue providing the support required by Syria to strengthen the health sector and provide health care to its citizens, pointing to the organization’s interest in following up the health conditions in the occupied Arab territories within the framework of its mandate and relevant resolutions.
