HASAKAH, May, 17, (ST)- The Governor of Hasakah, Ghassan Khalil, discussed with the delegation of the World Food Program (WFP) headed by Ann Fland, the ways of enhancing cooperation in the relief aspect and following up the implementation of the program’s activities in the governorate.
Khalil said during the meeting, which was held on Tuesday, that Hasakah Governorate today is in dire need of food aid due to the terrorist war being waged on Syria, the presence of the occupiers and the unjust sanctions being imposed on the Syrian people.
He indicated that the governorate has provided all the necessary measures to facilitate the organization’s work and continues to provide support and fruitful cooperation.
The governor asserted the need for coordination the sub-committee of relief when defining the targeted areas and working to establish an emergency warehouse to distribute food aid and control relief work to be delivered to the real beneficiaries and families who are in need.
For her part, the director of the organization’s regional office indicated that the needs have increased in many sectors, and the food program is working to meet them in coordination with other organizations, and there are great efforts to encourage donors to invest in this region.
Fland pointed out that the sub-committee is cooperating with the governorate to identify priority projects and identify sectors that need rehabilitation, including the irrigation sector, as well as working to increase productivity in the agricultural sector in the long term to reduce the need for assistance, especially the project to rehabilitate irrigation canals in the Areesheh area and the southern countryside of Hasakah .
