Hama, (ST) – With determination, resolve and high confidence in their capabilities, workers at the Al-Zara Power Plant in Hama Governorate are racing against time and defying difficulties to complete the general maintenance of the plant, which provides a third of Syria’s electricity needs, so that it is fully operated.
The plant, which is about 8 kilometers away from the road between the cities of Homs and Hama, and is located on the northern bank of Lake Rastan continues its work in all departments to reach the desired goal, according to worker Nazih Ruby from the maintenance section.
Ghassan Moussa, who has been working in the pumps workshop for more than 35 years, clarified that he works with his colleagues to maintain the water turbine, by checking its parts and rehabilitating them again to be fully operational, as spare parts are manufactured by local hands and expertise.
The worker in the burners room, Raed Ali Al-Sheikh, stated that 12 burners were dismantled and sandblasted for rehabilitation.
In turn, the station’s maintenance manager, Eng.Younis Abbas spoke about dividing the maintenance workers into shifts to complete the work as quickly as possible, given the importance of the Zara station, which constitutes 30 percent of the electricity generated in Syria. He reviewed all the stages of the station’s rehabilitation operations.
The Director of the Electric Power Generation Station in Al-Zara Ali Hassan Muhammad explained that the maintenance work, which is the safety valve for the electrical network in Syria, is being carried out for the first time on this scale in 23 years, as it faced many difficulties that were overcome by the efforts of the workers who were able to manufacture the spare parts necessary for the station to operate, and recycle some of the parts to benefit from them.
It is worth mentioning that Al-Zara station is considered one of the most important steam generation stations in Syria, and work began in it in the year 2000.
Raghda Sawas
