Golanese Alert Over Turbines

The people of the occupied Golan are in a state of alert after the decision of the Prime Minister of the Israeli occupation government, Benjamin Netanyahu, last Thursday 24th of August to allow the resumption of the confiscation of their lands to build a project for wind turbines in the eastern agricultural region, which is located between the villages of Majdal Shams, Masada, and Ain Qenya.
Netanyahu’s decision is to resume work on their lands and build 8 wind turbines out of 21 previously scheduled.

Turbine construction work stopped in the occupied northern Golan last June, following violent confrontations between the people of the Golan and the occupation police, which resulted in injuries among the people.
After the protests, the Israeli government issued instructions to halt work on the project, and then began negotiations to reach a way for its renewal.

A resident from the village of Masada told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed: “There is no acceptance of the project at all, and in fact the negotiations are still ongoing and have not ended,” he said that what is published in the Israeli media about the issue is “a kind of anesthesia or a kind of mind manipulation.” “, warning that the Israeli occupation government is exploiting the negotiations “to absorb people’s anger , ” he stressed, “Our position is firm on the first, and in the end we do not want turbines in the Golan.”

In order to prevent the outbreak of confrontations with the residents who oppose the construction of turbines that target their lands and represent an environmental threat to the region, the occupation authorities intend to resume the construction of eight turbines that they consider “far” from the villages.

However the people of the Golan will fight for their land as they have always fought and ultimately will win and it is only right they do so.
