Germany raised the alert level today under its emergency plan to secure gas supplies against the backdrop of a 60 percent drop in gas imports from Russia via the Nord Stream pipeline.
“We are facing a gas crisis. Gas has now become a scarce commodity, so the government will be able to support market actors to face high prices,” Economy Minister Robert Habeck was quoted by AFP as saying in a press conference today.
Habek noted that the third and final phase of the plan will allow the country to organize legalization.
