G20 Summit: We support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state

Rio de Janeiro (ST)-The G20 countries expressed their support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and the cessation of the war on Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

Agence France-Presse quoted the group’s leaders as saying in a joint statement at the conclusion of the group’s summit held in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro: “We are united in supporting a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2735 and in Lebanon to enable citizens to safely return to their homes on both sides of the Blue Line.”

The leaders expressed in their closing statement “deep concern over the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the escalation in Lebanon,” stressing “the urgent need to increase the flow of humanitarian aid and enhance the protection of civilians.”

The leaders’ statement continued: “We highlight the human suffering and negative effects of the war in Gaza Strip,” stressing their firm commitment to international law and relevant UN resolutions.
