76 years have passed since the massacre committed by Zionist terrorist gangs in the village of Deir Yassin, west of the occupied city of Jerusalem, which history remembers as one of the most heinous crimes of ethnic cleansing, where 360 Palestinians were killed. The catastrophic effects of the Deir Yassin massacre were not limited to that death toll, but the bloodiness and brutality of the massacre caused great fear amongst other villages which led to the displacement of thousands of Palestinians from their homes and land paving the way for Zionist settlers to take their place.
At approximately three o’clock on the morning of April 9, 1948, the village -Deir Yassin was attacked by terrorists from the “Irgun” gang, led by Menachem Begin, who later served as prime minister of the occupation government between 1977 and 1983, and terrorists from the “Stern gang” led by Yitzhak Shamir, who also later served as prime minister of the occupation government between 1983 and 1984 and 1986 and 1992.
The village was raided from the east and south, and in the face of the resistance of Deir Yassin people, the Zionist terrorists sought reinforcements from the “Haganah” and “Palmach” gangs, who rained mortar shells on the village, then stormed it and opened fire with machine guns at the Palestinians no matter whether they were children, young men, women, or elderly. Thus, the Zionists drowned the village in a sea of blood.
The brutal massacre continued until noon , during which the Zionist gangs blew up homes, killed everyone who moved, and mutilated the bodies of the martyrs. Before withdrawing from the village, the terrorists gathered all the Palestinians who remained alive inside Deir Yassin, stood them in front of the walls, opened fire on them, and executed them, while the Israeli gangs took about 25 of the village’s men to the streets of Jerusalem and then executed them by firing squad in the most brutal showdown.
The massacre took place in front of the eyes and ears of the British Mandate forces, who did not move to prevent the Zionist gangs from committing their crime, while these gangs prevented international institutions, including the Red Cross, from reaching the crime scene to determine what happened on the ground.
The Zionist gangs exploited the massacre to spread terror among the residents of the neighboring Palestinian villages, who were forced to flee to other areas of Palestine and neighboring countries. This is what Begin bragged about in one of his books, saying: “We created terror among the Arabs and all the villages in the vicinity, and with one stroke we changed the strategic situation.”
In the summer of 1949, hundreds of settlers established a settlement near the village of Deir Yassin, and in 1980, the Israeli occupation established a settlement on the village’s lands and gave the names of the Zionist gangs to places there.
History of terrorist repeats itself. The 95-year-old terrorist Ezra Yashin, who participated in the Deir Yassin massacre, played the same bloody role in the war of extermination that the occupation has been waging on the Gaza Strip since the seventh of last October, as the media circulated video clips of the terrorist “Yashin” during his participation in mobilizing the occupation army soldiers to invade the Gaza Strip, calling on the occupation soldiers to “erase the people of the Gaza Strip from existence.”
The Deir Yassin massacre was not the first and will not be the last for the Zionists. The Israeli occupation has never stopped its terrorism and continues to indulge in the blood of the Palestinian people and commit one massacre after another. The most horrific of these massacres is what the world is witnessing today during the war of extermination in the Gaza Strip, in which the occupation committed 2,941 massacres, claiming the lives of 33,207 martyrs while 75,933 were wounded. The majority of these injuries belong to women and children, in addition to more than 8,000 missing people. The Zionist massive destruction of the Gaza Strip has turned it into an unlivable area where death, hunger, disease, and fear spread.
The pain of the Palestinians, their demolished homes, their destroyed cities, their arrest and abuse, their forced displacement, and the daily crimes of the Israeli occupation that have been continuous for more than seven decades have not been enough to move the United States and the Western countries which tend to claim to care for humanity toward putting an end to the ethnic cleansing practiced by the Zionist entity. It seems nothing can be done to limit the full and blind western support for the occupation. The US administration and the EU governments do their utmost to thwart the efforts of the international community and international institutions to put an end to the crimes of Israel and hold it accountable for the Zionist genocide in Gaza. Still, the Palestinians affirm that the blood of the martyrs will not be in vain and that they will continue to defend the land of Palestine until it is fully liberated and all legitimate rights are restored.
