TOKYO, (ST)- The Syrian national football team will play a difficult and fateful match against its Japanese host tomorrow in the sixth and final round of the group stage of the joint qualifiers for the World Cup and the Asian Cup.
The match will be decisive for the Syrian team, as there is no alternative to victory in order to qualify for the third and decisive round of the qualifiers, as Syria has 7 points in the second group before going into tomorrow’s match, behind leading Japan with 15 points, and the Democratic Republic of Korea is third with 6 points, and the Myanmar team is fourth with one point.
Regarding the opinion of the Syrian national team’s coach, Hector Cuper about the team’s next match with Japan, he pointed out the difficulty of the match because it determines the team’s fate in the qualifiers, in addition to the fact that it is against a strong team, and despite that, there is hope, calling on the Syrian public to support the team in its next match.
The Syrian national team had defeated the Democratic Republic of Korea with one unanswered goal in the first round, lost to Japan 5-0 in the second round, tied with the Myanmar national team with a goal for the same in the third round, and beat the Myanmar national team with seven unanswered goals in the fourth round, before losing to the Korean national team democracy in the fifth round.
