Daraa-(ST)- Daraa farmers have finished harvesting the pistachio crop for the current season, as the cultivated an area of about 81 hectares.
The head of the Plant Production Department at the Agriculture Directorate Wael Al-Ahmad stated to a SANA reporter that this season’s production is expected to reach 21 tons, explaining that the area planted with pistachio crops reached about 81 hectares in the current season, with 11,500 trees distributed in various areas of the province.
Al-Ahmad said that Daraa farmers expanded pistachio cultivation this season compared to last year due its high price in the market compared to other crops and because it doesn’t need much care, explaining that the area planted with pistachios last season amounted to 76 hectares, with about 4190 trees that produced about 9 tons.
Daraa Governorate comes in the sixth place in pistachio production in Syria, after Hama, Idlib, Aleppo, Homs and Sweida.
