Damascus University, two Russian universities sign two MOU

Damascus, (ST) -Damascus University has signed two memoranda of understanding (MOU) with the Southern Federal University and the Ural State Medical University in the Russian Federation.

Under the two MOU, the two sides will cooperate in the field of exchanging faculty members, researchers and students for the purposes of teaching, research, academic courses, research programs, and participation in conferences and activities held in both countries.

 The signing was preceded by a session of talks chaired on the Syrian side by the Head of Damascus University, Dr. Muhammad Yasar Abdeen, and by the Russian side, the head of the Commercial and Industrial Committee in the Russian Parliament, Vladimir Gutniyov .Discussions centered on means of enhancing cooperation in the field of scientific research and activating agreements between Syrian and Russian universities.

The session also discussed cooperation in the field of capacity building in various fields of medical, technological, applied and human sciences, where Dr. Abdeen stressed the importance of activating joint cooperation with the Russian side at the level of training, rehabilitation and student exchange

For his part, Gutniev indicated readiness to implement many educational, industrial, commercial and other various programs, as well as training doctors, specialists and experts, in addition to providing support for the formation of an infrastructure for new technologies and advanced engineering centers in Syria.

The signing of the two memoranda came within the program of the joint Syrian-Russian meeting to follow up on the work of the international conference on the return of refugees.

In a related context, the Head of Damascus University, Dr. Abdeen met with the Deputy Dean of the History Faculty at Moscow State University, Dr. Aksana Solopova, and the two sides discussed means of enhancing cooperation between the two universities in the field of exchanging information, documents, data and experiences, especially in history and humanities specialists.

Dr. Abdeen also discussed with a scientific delegation from the Moscow Educational University and a representative of the Russian Ministry of Education the mechanisms of activating the cooperation agreement that was signed between the two universities.
