Damascus University records progress on Scimago website

DAMASCUS, April.5, (ST)- Damascus University has recorded progress on the Spanish international website (Scimago) of ranking universities, according to accurate scientific and academic indicators for the year 2022, where it occupied the place 705 according to the general classification, after it was in the 815th place last year.
 
According to Dr. Marwan Al-Ra’i, a member of the special committee for classification of Damascus University, the progress was achieved due to several reasons, mainly the increase in the number of external research papers  published in the name of Damascus University and the number of external citations for Damascus University research and the campaign (Your University is Your Belonging), which was launched by the university at the end of last year 2021and urged researchers to mention their  full attachment  to Damascus University when publishing. 
 
Dr. Al-Ra’I also referred to the increase in the number of external research published in journals within the top 10 percent of international journals, as well as the number of published external research, achieved a percentage of more than 90 percent in terms of research importance.
 
He pointed out that the number of the external research papers published by Damascus University during the year 2020-2021 within the Scopus database, which is one of the most important and largest databases for the classification of scientific journals, amounted to more than 400 research and this is an “unprecedented number for Damascus University.”
 
It is worth mentioning that the number of research and educational centers and bodies classified in the Scimago website this year reached 8,084, including only two Syrian universities: Damascus University and Tishreen University.
