The former head of the Center for International Security Cooperation of the Chinese Ministry of Defense, Colonel Zhou Poe, said that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine would accelerate the geopolitical shift from West to East.
In an interview with the British newspaper The Economist, Poe said: “The paradox is that the more NATO expands to the east, the less secure Europe becomes. It will end the non-nuclear status of the Baltic Sea,” calling on NATO to take Russia’s position on this issue seriously.
The Chinese expert stressed that the security of the European continent now as in the past can only be achieved in cooperation with Russia.
Sweden and Finland recently said they could abandon their long-standing neutrality and join NATO over the conflict in Ukraine.
