China called on the United States to stop statements or actions that can create division and confrontation, pointing out that the international community will not be deceived by US statements to discredit it, but will only affect Washington’s global credibility.
“The United States is revealing its bad intent to sow discord as well as the true nature of its hegemonic practices and power politics by repeatedly spreading disinformation and painting an ugly picture of China,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told a press conference as Xinhua reported.
“The biggest threat to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait comes from nowhere but the violent separatist activities of the forces seeking the so-called independence of the island, as well as the US complicity and support for such activities,” Wang said, adding that “it is the United States that has sought to obliterate and empty the principle of one integral China” and continued to retreat from its commitments as the US continuously eases restrictions on official interactions between Washington and Taiwan and increases arms sales to Taiwan in both qualitative and quantitative terms, and continues to help Taiwan expand the so-called international sphere and even work openly to support Taiwan in strengthening its so-called diplomatic relations.
Noting that the United States is the biggest factor fueling militarization in the Asia-Pacific region, Wang added that the United States deploys military aircraft and warships in the South China Sea on a regular basis, and the number of US military close reconnaissance missions against China has more than doubled compared to the past decade. “Militarization and jeopardizing freedom of navigation are more accurate when used to describe US behavior.”, Wang stated.
