Bahrain and Iran agree to establish necessary mechanism to begin talks on resuming relations

The Bahraini and Iranian Foreign ministers agreed during their meeting in Tehran yesterday to establish the necessary mechanism to begin talks on resuming political relations between the two countries.

The foreign ministries of the two countries said in a joint statement: “Within the framework of the historical fraternal relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the ties of religion, neighbourhood, common history and mutual interests  Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Ali Bagheri Kani, the Iranian Foreign Minister-designate, held a meeting in Tehran today. The meeting is on the occasion of Al-Zayani’s visit to Iran at the invitation of the Iranian Minister to participate in the Asian Cooperation Dialogue meeting”.

The statement added: “The two parties agreed in this meeting to establish the necessary mechanisms in order to begin talks between the two countries to study how to resume political relations between them”.
