Australia, New Zealand and Canada called in a joint statement today for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and urged the Israeli occupation entity to respond to the UN International Court of Justice, which ruled last week that its occupation of Palestinian territories and the settlements built on them were illegal.
“Israel must listen to the concerns of the international community as the protection of civilians is of paramount importance, a fundamental requirement under international humanitarian law,” the leaders of the three countries said in a joint statement, according to Reuters.
“Israel must hold extremist settlers accountable for the ongoing acts of violence against Palestinians and reverse its settlement building program in the West Bank, “the statement read.
The International Court of Justice, the highest judicial body of the United Nations, confirmed last week that the decades-long Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories is illegal and must end as soon as possible.
