DAMASCUS, (ST)-President Bashar Al-Assad has stressed that Arab trade unions and people’s organizations have showed a high sense of responsibility and awareness within the crises the Arab region is currently experiencing and they are playing a pivotal role within this turning point of the history of the region.
During a meeting on Thursday with members of the General Secretariat of the International Confederation of Arab Trade Unions (ICATU) led by the ICATU’s Secretary General Ghassan Ghusn, President Al-Assad affirmed that “what the west most fears are principles, belongingness and adherence to identity and this is what should be embodied by these organizations because they are the actual representative of Arab peoples.”
Members of the ICATU’s delegation stressed that the confederation supports the Syrian people in the face of the terrorist aggression and the unjust sanctions imposed on them, pointing out that the Syrians stand at the frontline of confrontation and that any war against this people targets all Arab peoples.
The ICATU is keen on confronting the economic colonialism some countries are trying to impose on the region, members of the delegation asserted. They also insisted on working to establish true Arab partnership as to eliminate poverty and unemployment.
