Tunisia condemned the assassination of the head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement Ismail Haniyeh in the Iranian capital, Tehran, stressing that it constitutes a continuation of the bloody Israeli approach and a blatant violation of the sovereignty of states.
The Tunisian News Agency quoted the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying in a statement: “This heinous crime is added to the long list of bloody history and sinful operations committed by the Zionist occupation before and after the occupation of Palestine. It also constitutes a cowardly aggression, a blatant violation, and a flagrant assault on the sovereignty of states and disregard for all human and moral values and international conventions.”
It pointed out that “the aggression comes in light of the inability of the international community to stop the war of extermination and starvation and to hold the Zionist occupier accountable for the violations and massacres it commits daily against the Palestinian people, and to halt the provocative expansionist policies it pursues.”
The Tunisian Foreign Ministry reiterated Tunisia’s firm position on the Palestinian cause and its support for the Palestinian brothers in their desperate struggle to regain their full legitimate rights and establish their independent state with full sovereignty over all of Palestine with Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital.
In turn, Algeria, through its permanent representative to the United Nations, Amar Benjamaa, condemned the assassination crime, considering it a cowardly terrorist act that violates international law and the sovereignty of states.
Benjamaa said in a speech during an emergency session of the UN Security Council on Wednesday devoted to the situation in the Middle East: “This crime cannot be considered a mere attack on one man, but rather a fierce assault on the foundations of diplomatic relations, the sanctity of state sovereignty, and the principles on which our global order is based.”
Benjamaa expressed “Algeria’s condemnation of this cowardly terrorist act,” stressing that “the Zionist entity has adopted a policy of bloodshed and scorched earth, leaving behind destruction practicing violence against Gaza, the West Bank, Yemen, Lebanon, Syria and now Iran,” adding that “these are not just illegal acts, they are immoral activities that stain the conscience of humanity.”
The Algerian delegate stressed the need for “the international community not to remain silent while innocent blood is shed and international law is violated.” He also called for “a complete end to the Zionist occupation of Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese territories, and for the occupation to be held fully accountable for the heinous war crimes and human rights violations it is committing.”
For his part, the First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky strongly condemned the assassination crime, warning that this aggression aims to drag Iran into a confrontation at a time when the region is witnessing a dangerous escalation. Polyansky stressed that “those behind this political assassination must realize the seriousness of the consequences that may result for them and for the entire region, as the wrong practice of targeted liquidation of prominent political and military figures is pushing the Middle East to the brink of a large-scale regional war.”
He noted that it has become clear to everyone that the key to resolving the current unprecedented escalation lies in stopping the bloodshed in Gaza Strip, where the number of martyrs is approaching 40,000 people, in addition to more than 90,000 wounded.
Brazil, for its part, strongly condemned this crime and expressed its rejection of this blatant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and called for preventing the Middle East from entering into a conflict of great dimensions and unpredictable consequences.
Brazil stressed its “rejection of the blatant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is a clear violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter.”
In another statement, the Brazilian government also condemned the Israeli attack on the southern suburb of Beirut.
