Apple and YouTube allocate $ 200 million to combat racism

Washington, (ST) – The company “Apple” Electronics and YouTube clips service allocated 200 million dollars to combat racism and support for black issues in countries of the world.

Reuters quoted Apple as saying that “We will increase spending with black-owned supply companies as part of$ 100 million equality and racial justice initiative,” while Google-owned YouTube announced it will spend $ 100 million “to fund black artists.”

Tim Cook, chief executive of Apple said in a video posted on Twitter that the electronics and technology giant wants to remove the “systemic obstacles” faced by people of color, especially blacks.

The initiative will be overseen by Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president in charge of social responsibility for the group.

Tim Cook promised a “comprehensive” approach that would support education, civil society organizations and black-owned companies.

In turn, Susan Wojcicki, CEO of YouTube, said in an online post that “The service will spend $ 100 million over several years in order to promote and develop the voices and stories of black artists.”

Floyd’s suffocation last month led to protests across the United States and anti-violence and racist campaigns on the US police on social media, with demonstrators demanding reforms in the police and surveillance systems that they considered to be excessively targeting people of African descent in addition to achieving justice in the case of  Floyd.
