Antonov: Washington’s plans to deploy medium-and short-range missiles in Germany threaten international security
Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov described US plans to deploy medium- and short-range missiles in Germany as a direct threat to international security that increases the risks of a missile arms race.
Sputnik quoted Antonov as saying to reporters: “The United States’ plans to deploy medium- and short-range missiles in Europe are a grave mistake on Washington’s part because such extremely destabilizing steps constitute a direct threat to international security and strategic stability, and the Americans are also increasing the risks of the arms race.”
He stressed that Russia’s tolerance for provocations against its security is not without limits, calling on Germany to realize that the emergence of American missile strike capabilities on its territory will lead to targeting these facilities.
The Pentagon announced earlier that in 2026 the United States will begin deploying long-range offensive systems in Germany, which will significantly exceed the weapons already in place in Europe.
