An international organization: more than 59 million internally displaced people in the world during the past year
According to a study prepared by an international organization, conflicts and natural disasters forced millions of people to flee within their countries last year, raising the total number of displaced people to a record level.
A study issued by the Internal Displacement Monitoring Center, which is part of the Norwegian Refugee Council, stated that the number of internally displaced people reached 59.1 million in 2021, nearly half of whom are under the age of 18.
According to the study, this number, which does not include refugees outside their countries of origin, continues to rise and is supposed to reach a record level in 2022 due to the Ukrainian crisis.
This is the second time that the number of internally displaced people has reached a record level in ten years after 2020, which witnessed a record number of displacements due to a series of natural disasters.
