An initiative by Qamishli locals to distribute drinking water to people in Hasakah

Today, locals from the city of Qamishli provided 20 tanks loaded with water to be distributed to the people in the city of Hasakah, under the supervision of the governorate, in the light of the continued cutting of water supplies from Alouk station by the Turkish occupation.

In a statement to SANA reporter, the deputy governor of Hasakah, Hassan Al-Shamhoud, referred to the continuation of civil initiatives to provide drinking water to the people of the city of Hasakah to alleviate the suffering of water shortage in the light of the continuation of the humanitarian crime committed against them by the Turkish occupier and the stopping of pumping from the Alouk water station. He pointed out that the civil initiatives provided by the community comes as a continuation and support for the governmental efforts to continue transporting and securing water through tankers by Hasakah City Council, the General Secretariat of the governorate, and the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor.

Al-Shamhoud indicated that the civil initiatives and government efforts in the field of water delivery meet a small part of the people’s need, so there is no alternative to Alouk water station and reoperating it as soon as possible. He noted that the total amount of water that is transported through tanks does not exceed 2,000 cubic meters, knowing that the daily need that is pumped from the Alouk station is 60,000 cubic meters, and this shows the extent of the suffering of the people in Hasakah.

The Turkish occupation and its mercenaries from the terrorist organizations continue to cut off drinking water for one million citizens in the city of Hasakah since the second of November 2022 to date, in violation of all international conventions and norms.
