GENEVA, JUN.8, (ST)-On the sidelines of the 112th session of the International Labor Conference, which is being currently held in Geneva, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Louay Al-Munajid, discussed with the Director-General of the International Labor Organization, Gilbert Hongbo, and his accompanying delegation the ways of enhancing joint cooperation to develop the legislations related to the business sector.
During the meeting, which was attended by the Permanent Representative of Syria to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Haider Ali Ahmed, they talked about the legislative amendments that Syria is working on to keep pace with current developments represented in the labor and social insurance laws and other laws.
The two sides stressed the importance of strengthening joint cooperation and benefiting from the organization’s technical experience in several sectors.
Al-Munajjid referred to Syria’s continuous efforts to enhance tripartite social dialogue between the government, the worker, and the employers in accordance with international labor standards, to develop the legislative environment regulating the business sector and the labor market.
following the meeting, Al-Munajjid held a sub-meeting with the Regional Director for Arab Countries of the International Labor Organization in Beirut, Ruba Jaradat.
The talks dealt with the issue of Syrian refugees in Lebanon and the efforts made by the Syrian government to return them to their motherland.
It is noteworthy that the 112th session of the International Labor Conference, organized by the International Labor Organization in Geneva, began on the 3rd of this month and will continue until the 14th, in the presence of representatives of the three labor parties, including governments, employers and workers from 180 countries.
