On May 22nd, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Faisal Miqdad met with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria Geir Pedersen.
The two sides discussed issues of common interest and the efforts of the Syrian state to consolidate stability, especially by expanding the scope of reconciliations and settlement processes that have taken place and are still taking place in different Syrian regions.
During the meeting, Minister Al-Miqdad spoke about the content and importance of the recently issued amnesty decree, explaining that all concerned authorities continue to work without stopping to fully implement the amnesty decree.
Minister Al-Miqdad pointed to the continued Turkish occupation of part of the Syrian territory, warning of the danger of the recent statements made by the Turkish regime regarding the establishment of a so-called “safe zone” in northern Syria.
For his part, Pedersen described the recent amnesty decree as an important step, referring to the course of his recent visits and meetings.
Pedersen also touched upon the issue of holding the next round of the constitutional discussion committee on the 28th of this month.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Ayman Susan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Abdullah Hallaq and Ihab Hamed from the Minister’s office.
