Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad affirmed that the ongoing Israeli aggression against Gaza for the tenth month overturned the slogans and allegations uttered by Western countries to interfere in the affairs of other countries. It revealed their lies, hypocrisy, and lack of human values, and confirmed their blatant bias towards the occupation at the expense of international law and the United Nations Charter. He pointed out that Syria has repeatedly warned of the repercussions of this aggression and the attacks on its territory, and called on the Security Council to stop them, but the United States prevented the Council from doing so, violating its obligations as a permanent member of the Council.
On behalf of Minister Al-Miqdad, Permanent Representative Ambassador Qusay Al-Dahhak delivered Syria’s statement before the Ministerial Meeting of the Security Council on Wednesday on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue.
Al-Miqdad noted that with the continuation of the Israeli war of annihilation against Gaza for the tenth month, and in light of the massive destruction and perpetration of the occupation authorities for countless massacres that led to the death of about 39,000 Palestinians and the injury of more than 89,000, and with the repeated attacks on Syria and Lebanon, we must ask: What calls for action by the Security Council more than what we are witnessing from the genocide and atrocities committed by “Israel” against the Palestinian people.
He wondered about the failure of the collective security system established by the United Nations Charter to oblige the occupation authorities to immediately stop their aggressive policies and daily massacre, denouncing the silence of Western countries about the war crimes .
He asserted that the crimes of the Israeli entity did not begin on the seventh of last October, but they are continuation of a long series of massacres and acts of aggression which were committed by the Israeli occupation over decades to establish its presence on the occupied Arab lands, killing and displacing their people and establishing more settlements on them to undermine any chance of the establishment of a Palestinian state. This was demonstrated once again in the occupation authorities’ announcement a few days ago of a plan to establish 5,300 new settlements in the West Bank, and in preparation for this, they seized Palestinian land, the largest in area in more than 30 years.
The statement noted that Syria affirms its condemnation of the Israeli crimes, and demands to stop them. It also renews its full support for the Palestinian people in their struggle to end the occupation, and to enjoy their established and inalienable rights, including their right to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, and to obtain full membership in the United Nations.
Syria rejects all attempts to undermine UNRWA and its important role in providing support to the Palestinians in their homeland and the host countries, including Syria.
The Israeli occupation entity would not have dared to commit all these flagrant violations of international law without the direct involvement of the United States in the aggression, and the unlimited political, military, financial, and media support that it provides with a number of its allies to “Israel.”
Indeed, the American administration has unjustly granted itself the authority to determine binding and non-binding Security Council resolutions according to its interests.
The Israeli aggression against Gaza has demolished all the slogans and claims uttered by some Western countries to interfere in the affairs of other countries, exposed their lies, hypocrisy, and lack of human values, and confirmed their blatant bias towards the occupation at the expense of international law and the United Nations Charter.
The Israeli entity continued their repeated attacks on Syrian lands, the latest of which was the air aggression that targeted a residential building in Damascus and areas on its outskirts at dawn last Sunday and they were also preceded by an attack that affected the vicinity of the city of Baniyas.
These aggressive actions threaten to ignite war throughout many parts of the region and the world unless Israel is restrained from its aggression and held accountable for its crimes.
Syria has warned of the repercussions of the continuation of these attacks, and has repeatedly called on the United Nations and the Security Council to assume their responsibilities to stop them and be held accountable for them. However, the American administration has prevented the Council from playing any tangible role, and has provided immunity to “Israel” and its criminals, which violates its obligations as a permanent member state in the Council.
Syria reaffirms its legitimate right to defend its sovereignty, security, and stability, and to liberate its occupied land by all means guaranteed by the international law.
Syria demands an end to the Israeli attacks on Lebanon and the safe civilian villages in southern Lebanon, which led to the martyrdom of numbers of civilians, the destruction of towns, the displacement of their residents, and the destruction of agricultural lands as a result of the use of internationally banned white phosphorus.
Last month, the Syrian people, including our people in the occupied Syrian Golan, commemorated the 50th anniversary of raising the flag of the Syrian Arab Republic in the sky of the city of Quneitra after its liberation from the Israeli occupation. On this occasion, Syria reaffirms its unrelenting determination to raise its flag over its entire national territory after being liberated from occupation and terrorism.
Syria affirms that the occupied Golan was and will remain Syrian Arab, and is an integral part of its territory, and that the United Nations and the Security Council must break out of the state of silence and stagnation, and take action to oblige “Israel” to cease its efforts to change the cultural identity, demographic composition, urban character, institutional structure, and legal status of the occupied Golan. It also calls to put the relevant international legitimacy resolutions, most notably Resolutions 242, 338 and 497, into practice in order to ensure an end to the Israeli occupation of the occupied Arab territories.
Syria stresses the important role of the UNDOF and UNTSU missions, and the necessity of not harming them or diverting them from their basic mandate, which expires exclusively with the end of the Israeli occupation of Arab lands.
