Al-Mikdad: Humanitarian action must not be politicized

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal Al-Mikdad and the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq Jeanine Plasschaert have discussed ways to enhance cooperation and coordination between the Syrian government and the UN bodies and agencies.

During a meeting on Saturday in Damascus, the two sides focused in their talks on cooperation in the field of providing humanitarian aid and on the situation in the camps in Syria, particularly Al-Hawl camp.

“Humanitarian action should be achieved away from politicization and double standards and the United Nations and all the countries, which has nationals in camps in Syria, must coordinate with the Syrian government to bring these nationals back to the homelands,” Al-Mikdad stressed.

On her part, Plasschaert highly appreciated Syria’s cooperation in the issue of closing the camps, particularly those set up at the Syrian-Iraqi borders. She expressed her readiness to coordinate with the Syrian and Iraqi governments to solve the problems of the Iraqi nationals, particularly the children and women residing in Al-Hawl camp.
