Al-Mikdad discusses with Yakovenko world’s geopolitical issues, regional and international developments
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad on Thursday received the Dean of the Diplomatic Academy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Yakovenko.
During the meeting, views were exchanged on the various geopolitical issues and developments in the world, as well as regional and international developments that carry between their folds the features of a new world order.
Al-Mikdad emphasized the similarity between the political attitudes of Syria and Russia and the two countries’ standing alongside international law and the principles of justice and equality among States. He pointed out that the West is trying to maintain its control over the world by finding rules that fit its realities and aspirations and apply them to other countries, ignoring the cultural and civilizational features of the rest of the world’s peoples.
Al-Mikdad explained that the unilateral coercive sanctions imposed by Western States on a number of countries in the world, including Syria and the Federal Russia, aim to steal and impoverish people’s capabilities and keep them under the west’s economic and political domination.
In turn, Yakovenko pointed out that economic, financial and technological changes are the most prominent on the global scene now, and are driving many of the world’s nations to seek economic and political alternatives that free them of the West’s financial hegemony and the power of its unilateral economic sanctions. He stressed that the United States of America is the biggest beneficiary of sparking wars and fueling global conflicts with the aim of maintaining the dollar’s dominanation over the global economy and trade.
The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation and exchange experiences between the diplomatic institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates and the diplomatic academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
