The Minister of Health, Dr. Hassan Al-Ghabash, discussed with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer ways of cooperation on the work of the health sector and the health services provided in Syria.
In a statement to reporters after the meeting, Dr. Al-Ghubash explained that the reality of the health sector in Syria was discussed among the concerned parties in the ministry with the head of the committee and his accompanying delegation, in order to enhance cooperation between the two parties on the work of the ministry and the services it provides, and to continue coordination and raise the level of cooperation with the local team of the committee in Syria.
Dr. Al-Ghabash stressed that the International Committee of the Red Cross had a wide role in supporting the health sector in Syria during the years of the terrorist war, whether through cooperation with the ministry or the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.
In turn, Maurer pointed out that the cooperation between the committee and the ministry has been going on for more than 10 years, and that during the current meeting, some axes were discussed regarding cooperation and work to raise the readiness and possibilities for its continuation and reaching the largest possible number of beneficiaries, explaining that important points were identified to be worked on extensively later between the local team of the committee and the stakeholders in the Ministry of Health.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Razan Salouta, the Director of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Weam Haider, the Director of Readiness and Emergency, Dr. Tawfiq Hassaba, and the Director of Primary Health Care, Dr. Razan Al-Tarabishi.
