A youthful initiative to rehabilitate a number of parks in the city of Lattakia

Parks  provide spaces for communities to gather and for people to interact, and they bring our shared culture and history to life. Plant diversity is currently being lost at an unprecedented rate, resulting in an associated decrease in ecosystem services.

We therefore need to increase our efforts to develop integrative conservation approaches for plant species conservation  parks that play  a central role in meeting human needs and providing well-being.

Under the slogan  “ Consciously..We Protect our Environment”  an  initiative by young people  was launched to rehabilitate a number of parks in the city of Lattakia with the participation of fifty young men and women.

The two-day  initiative, which was organized by the Voluntary Work and Environment Committee of the Martyr Imad Eddin Deeb league of the revolution youth union in cooperation with the Directorate of Services and Maintenance in Lattakia governorate , included cleaning, pruning trees  and rehabilitating a number of parks in Lattakia city.

Secretary of the youth league Hussein Hammoud  stressed  in  a statement to SANA the importance of taking care   and preserving the parks  in addition to raising the  sense of social responsibility among young people and urging them to carry out  voluntary work  to preserve their city and environment.

In turn, Farah Abdeen, head of the Voluntary Work and Environment Committee, pointed out that cleaning the parks  is a primary priority, as they are  the lung of the governorate, indicating the two-day  initiative included trimming trees, collecting garbage, disposing of waste, checking the safety of the parks’ seats  and painting them.

The two volunteers Mohammed Khalaf and Jodi Benshiexpressed  that their participation in the initiative is  a message to enhance awareness about  the need to spread the culture of volunteerism and preserve public properties and their cleanliness, especially parks.
