The expanded session of talks between the two sides, which took place today at the Ministry of Justice building, dealt with discussions on the development of a judicial cooperation agreement between the two countries in criminal and civil issues, personal status, extradition of criminals, transfer of convicts, and liquidation of estates, in addition to working to facilitate litigation procedures and possible assistance to the nationals of the two countries.
The session also included a discussion of the requirements for developing scientific aspects in the judicial field in terms of benefiting from experiences and expertise in the scope of legislation related to judicial work, in addition to exchanging knowledge and scientific output between the Higher Judicial Institute in Syria and the Judicial Institute in Iraq.
At the end of the session, the two sides stressed the necessity of continuing bilateral coordination and consultation to develop a joint action mechanism.
On the other hand, the Iraqi delegation visited the Higher Institute for the Judiciary, and met the graduates, where Judge Zaidan congratulated the new judges on their graduation, wishing them success in their work, and wrote a word in the Institute’s visitors’ book. The delegation also visited the Court of Cassation and met a number of judges.
It is noteworthy that the Iraqi judicial delegation arrived in Damascus yesterday for a two-day visit aimed at developing judicial and legal cooperation relations between the two countries.
The Iraqi delegation includes the head of the Public Prosecution Authority, Judge Najm Abdullah Al-Ahmad, the head of the Judicial Supervision Authority, Judge Laith Jabr Hamza, the head of the Rusafa Court of Appeal, Judge Imad Khudair Muhammad Al-Jabri, the head of the Karkh Court of Appeal, Judge Khaled Taha Al-Mashhadani, and the director general of the Judicial Guards Department, Rahim Abdul Hassan.
