Susi at the Arab Competition Forum in Tunisia: The repercussions of the terrorist war hindered the implementation of the Monopoly Prevention Law

The Fifth Arab Competition Forum concluded its activities today in the Tunisian capital, with the participation of Syria and the presence of representatives of Arab competition bodies, academics, and international as well as international experts on competition policies and enforcement in the region.

The representative of the Syrian delegation participating in the forum, Assistant Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Samer Susi stated in his speech that enhancing cooperation and coordination in ESCWA member states, and providing valuable insights into the process of formulating and enforcing competition policies, leads to the advancement of competition policies in the Arab region, which is in need to enhance the culture of competition.

Susi explained that some countries’ exploitation of their dominant position in the global market have led to an unprecedented rise in the prices of goods and materials at the global, regional and local levels.

The two-day forum has been organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia ESCWA, in cooperation with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development UNCTAD, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Competition Commission for the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, and the Tunisian Competition Council.
The forum aims to strengthen competition frameworks, spread the culture of competition and contribute to improving economic growth and governance in the Arab region, in line with sustainable development goals.
