Counselor Ajeeb: Israeli continuous attacks on Syrian territories and the Palestinian people are pushing the region towards comprehensive escalation
New York (ST): Syria has affirmed that the continuation of the Israeli occupation’s attacks on its lands and the escalation of Israeli criminal practices against the Palestinian people and the people in the occupied Syrian Golan are pushing the region towards a comprehensive escalation and a new phase of insecurity and stability, which requires the UN Security Council to break its silence and assume its responsibilities to end the Israeli occupation of Arab lands.
Member of the permanent Syrian delegation to the United Nations, Counselor Wissam Ajeeb, stated during a session of the Security Council on Thursday on the situation in the Middle East that the Israeli occupation continues its barbaric attacks and criminal practices against the brotherly Palestinian people and the people in the occupied Syrian Golan, who confront the Israeli war machine with their bare hands, and declare their rejection of the continuation of occupation of their land and the establishment of settlement plans on it, the displacement of them from their cities and villages and the destruction of their homes, which undermines the chances of stability in the region. He expressed Syria’s strong condemnation of these attacks, which represent war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Ajeeb pointed out that the escalation of the occupation is nothing but an expression of its inability to weaken the resolve of the Palestinian people who adhere to their legitimate historical rights, foremost of which is the establishment of their independent state with Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital and the return to their land.
He noted that the inability of the Security Council to find a just and urgent solution to the Palestinian issue which has been prolonged due to the obstruction of one permanent member in it, harms the reputation of the Council and its ability to carry out its responsibilities, at a time when we desperately need urgent action from the Council to stop the crimes of the Israeli occupation, hold the perpetrators accountable. ensure that they are not repeated and obligate “Israel”, the occupying power, to implement the relevant international legitimacy resolutions to the Palestinian cause, to enable the Palestinian people to enjoy their legitimate and inalienable rights.
The Syrian diplomat pointed out that the repeated political crises faced by the successive governments of the Israeli occupation entity push its leaders, who are unable to solve them, to export their internal crises, by launching attacks on the defenseless Palestinian people, on the Syrian lands, and on the people in the occupied Syrian Golan, in a clear dedication to the approach of the law of force and the law of the jungle, in shameless disregard of international law and the provisions of the Charter of the United Nations.
Ajeeb stressed that the crimes of the Israeli occupation in Palestine are inseparable from its practices in the rest of the occupied Arab lands, as it continues its aggressive policies against our people in the occupied Syrian Golan, and its practices of the most heinous violations of international law and international humanitarian law, such as detention, killing, displacement, restriction of freedom of movement, and the continued closure of the Quneitra crossing since 2014, which is the only lifeline that allows the people of the occupied Golan to communicate with their relatives in their homeland, Syria, according to the Disengagement of Forces Agreement of 1974.
He indicated that the occupation is studying its systematic expansionist policies in the Golan and its plans to establish thousands of units and settlement outposts, with the aim of perpetuating its occupation, imposing demographic change and increasing the number of settlers to implement its settlement expansion plan represented by the establishment of wind turbines on these lands. He stressed that the defenseless people in Golan confronted the heavily armed occupation forces, which resulted in dozens of injuries, including serious injuries, and the occupation forces prevented ambulances from reaching them, and also launched a massive campaign of detention against the people in the Golan.
Ajeeb explained that the danger of establishing wind turbines lies in suffocating the villages of the occupied Golan, cutting them apart and isolating them from each other, and threatening agriculture in them, which is the only source of livelihood for most of the people of the Golan, in addition to stopping the urban expansion of the villages of the Golan, displacing its people and replacing them with settlers.
