New York (ST): The United Nations General Assembly unanimously elected yesterday the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iran in New York as Vice-President of the 78th session of the General Assembly and Rapporteur of the Disarmament Committee in this organization.
With this election, the Republic of Iran has been appointed as one of the five vice-presidents of the General Assembly from the Asia-Pacific Group, as the next session of the Assembly will begin next September in the presence of senior officials of countries.
In addition to directing the upcoming meetings of the General Assembly, the elected Vice-Presidents of the Assembly, along with the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, constitute the members of the General Committee that will be responsible for setting the agenda and setting priorities for the meetings of the Assembly.
