ALBA calls for lifting the coercive measures imposed on some countries

On December 15th, the countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the American Continent (ALBA) affirmed their rejection of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on some sovereign states.

ALBA noted that these measures violate human rights and the principles of the UN Charter and international law.

In a statement at the conclusion of the 22nd summit of the alliance’s countries held in the Cuban capital, Havana, ALBA called for the immediate lifting of these measures because they are illegal and they aim at destabilizing the targeted countries.

ALBA called for respecting the right to self-determination of peoples and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries and for non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

ALBA stressed the importance of peaceful solution of international disputes and rejected using force or threateningt of using force in international relations.

The Bolivarian Alliance for the American Continent (ALBA) consists of Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Suriname and Saint Lucia.
