My Fears

Reneva Fourier is a South African political analyst who has been living in Syria for the past three years. She has witnessed first hand the Israeli attacks on Syrian soil, their barbarity and their savagery.Israel in open defiance to international laws and norms has attacked Syria many times not even bothering itself with false pretexts.

Israel’s attacks against Syria that systematically violate the air space of Syria and neighboring states and target civilian objects are a destabilizing factor in the region.

Sadly  the UN turns a blind eye to Syria’s appeals about the Israeli recurrent attacks on its territory though Syria has  repeatedly addressed both the Secretary-General and the Security Council of the United Nations regarding the numerous violations of the Charter of the United Nations and norms of international humanitarian law.

In its letters to the Security Council and the United Nations, the Syrian government has called for their action to stop the aggression of the Zionist regime and to hold this regime accountable to international laws.

In Reneva’s recent travels she went to Lebanon where the sound of thunder caused her hackles to rise in anticipation of an Israeli attack –  so programmed was she to identify loud scary sounds with Israeli attacks.

So she wrote a poem, a very symbolic one!!

My fears 😊. I can imagine that’s it’s so much worse for the citizens of Syria …
Beirut Thunderstorms
It’s midnight
Explosions rock the air ….
Ah, it’s the Israelis
They choose this time to strike
But they don’t usually attack Lebanon?
Explosions rock the air …
I listen for the sound of planes ….
S*#% no air defence
Who is going to protect us
Again
Explosions rock the air…
Look through the window and see what is happening
No don’t
These windows do not have shutters like in Syria
Besides. There is no air defence. What if the missile strikes the hotel
Best to sit in the loo
It has no windows
Explosions rock the air …
Check social media …
Nothing …
Check the news …
Nothing
Text my friends who are also visiting Beirut (Rima and Khaled) …
They are sleeping
Why is no one else awake (turns out we were all awake wondering exactly the same thing)
These explosions have been non stop for an hour
No sirens? No movement?
Let me check my phone for the weather
It’s a thunderstorm
Finally the rain is falling
I can sleep
… explosions rock the air…
… is that a plane?
… are those vehicles?
… maybe it IS the Israelis and not a storm?
… look through the window…
… no don’t look through the window…
… more rain …
… relax, it is a storm after all …
… but no, I cannot sleep …
How screwed up am I…
The Israelis have attacked Syria so often that even a thunder storm  in Beirut causes tension
Every part of my body is alert
Ready for either flight or fight
Definitely, no sleep tonight!
