SWEIDA, (ST)- Director of Agriculture in Sweida, Eng. Bassam Jermghani, predicted that the production of almond crop for the current agricultural season is about 2070 tons.
Eng. Jermghani said recently in a statement that the total area planted with almond crop in the governorate is of 2037 hectares and the total number of trees is 596,000 trees of which 365,000 fruitful tree spread in the low plains areas, pointing out that almond tree is drought tolerant and can be grown in rugged areas.
He also pointed out to the importance of this crop due to its nutritional and medicinal uses and its susceptibility to storage for a long time and rewarding prices for farmers. The total production of the governorate of the almond crop during the last season is 1019 tons.
