A new artistic invention hosted by the Damascus Citadel for the winners of the 2021 Portrait Competition
Damascus (ST): The portrait competition for young artists announced the names of the winners in the fields of sculpture and oil painting for its third session, which was hosted by the Damascus Citadel, in which 20 sculptors and photographers from graduates of the Faculty of Fine Arts and the Institute of Applied Arts participated.
The jury of the competition held by the Institute of Applied Arts awarded its prizes in the field of oil painting, the first to Jawaher Al Hamad, the second to Ayat Al Zoubi, and the third equally between Ammar Al Harf and Ya’rob Nassif.
In the field of sculpture, the committee awarded the first prize to Sacher Lao, the second to Rabie Khalil, and the third equally between Joan Sha’abo and Manaf Hassan.
The awards ceremony included an art exhibition that displayed the work of the participating youth with twenty sculptures and a painting that they created to express their different visions and methods, relying on the recycling of environmental waste such as glass, plastic, metal and cloth away from the use of familiar wood and clay materials.
The teacher at the Institute of Applied Arts, Waddah Salameh, referred to the importance of this competition, which is held to support young sculptors and painters, especially as it allowed this session to develop horizons of creativity by relying on the recycling of environmental waste.
