On January 10th, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the failure of negotiations on the Al-Nahddah Dam (Renaissance)
due to disagreements between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan on how to resume the talks and the procedural aspects related to managing the negotiation process.
As for Sudan- according to a statement by the ministry, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, and Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Mohamed Abdel-Ati expressed Egypt’s readiness to engage in serious and effective negotiations in order to reach as soon as possible a binding legal agreement on the rules for filling and operating the Grand Prix Dam in implementation of the decisions of the African Union Bureau’s meetings.
The statement said that Sudan adheres to the necessity to instruct the experts appointed by the African Union Commission to propose solutions to the controversial issues and to formulate the Renaissance Dam agreement.
