Trump supporters’ storming of Congress unveils the falsehood of claims of American democracy

The American capital, Washington witnesses chaos as supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump stormed the Congress and besieged the representatives inside the Capitol amid an armed confrontation with the police protecting the building.

Trump’s refusal to recognize the recent presidential elections and the victory of Democrat Joe Biden, the injury of a number of officers in the Capitol Building and the death of a woman unveil  the reality of the image that the American administrations has always marketed to the world for decades as being the custodians of democracy and freedom in the world.

 

The leader of the Republican majority in the Senate, Senator Mitch McConnell blamed Trump  and shouldered him the responsibility for the chaos, saying that Congress had not witnessed such a situation in history .

Trump has become a criminal in the White House, according to the description of Democratic Representative William Baskrell, who in his tweet considered today’s actions a “coup” attempt that is doomed to failure.

The US Department of Homeland Security requested sending additional federal agents to the Capitol building, which includes the Senate and the House of Representatives, to help control violence.  Mayor of the American capital, Washington, imposed a curfew in the capital, starting at 6 pm local time.
